Franz Leopold Sonnenschein
(b.
July 13,
1817 in
Cologne; d.
February 26,
1879) was a
chemist. He taught himself
pharmacy, and in the 1830's
established a small laboratory in
Berlin. He along studied with
a physician other pharmacists for
the state examination. At the same
time he studied chemistry and set
himself up in 1852 as a private
lecturer. He dedicated himself to
analytic chemistry and involved
himself in a practical activities,
for which he won a reputation
unlike any chemist before him.
Many technical enterprises owed
their success to him. He promoted
analytic and judicial chemistry by
numerous scientific
investigations. He died February
26, 1879 while a professor at the
University in Berlin.
