Henry Drysdale Dakin (1880
-
1952) was an
English
chemist.
Together with
Alexis Carrel, he developed
the Carrel-Dakin method of wound
treatments. This consisted of
intermittently irrigating the
wound with Dakin's solution. This
solution is a highly diluted
antiseptic, consisting of sodium
hypochlorite (0,4% to 0,5%) and
boric acid (4%). It is unstable
and deteriorates within a few
days, and must be made as needed.
